School background information
Putuavanga Senior Secondary School, located in the Kunene Region of Namibia, was established in 1991. It serves students from grades 8 through 12 and faces several challenges including overcrowded classrooms, inadequate water supply, lack of furniture, and needed repairs. However, it also has strengths such as functioning computer and science labs and has shown strong academic performance. The school also benefits from support from organization like MTC and the Namibian Defense force.
Vision: To deliver holistic education in a safe, caring environment—preparing learners to become positive, functional members of a democratic Namibia. A key goal is to be recognized as the leading senior secondary school in the Kunene Region. Mission: Focused on inclusive quality education that nurtures the whole child, drawing on tradition while promoting meaningful interaction among staff, students, parents, and community stakeholders.
The school maintains a policy of having students (especially girls) shave their heads to promote discipline, equality, and avoid discrimination; this practice continues with parental approval despite new guidelines from the Ministry of Education . Regarding curriculum changes, Principal Tjazapi explained that confusion around the revised national curriculum stems from lack of familiarity among parents; teachers and school staff work to clarify these changes year by year, starting from grade 8 .The school’s successful sports teams also participate in regional events.
